CIA, MOSSAD HAND BEHIND SANGH PARIVAR’S EXTREMISTS!
Central Intelligence Agencies vigilant investigating in the aftermath of Malegaon blast; Enquiry being held into the February 2007 visit of prominent Israeli religious delegation and meetings with Hindutvadi Sadhu, Sanths and political leaders; Mossad infiltration a cause of deep concern for Intelligence officials
New Delhi, November 25: (Agencies) – According to an exposé in a national daily published from Madhya Pradesh and several other cities, in the aftermath of the arrests of Sadhu, Sadhvi, and other extremist Hindutvadis as involved in the Malegaon bomb blast, Intelligence agencies are now concentrating on foreign connections of the radical Hindutvadis.
In an special report published by the national daily, it has exposed this sensational news that in central intelligence agencies are to be believed, extremist Hindutvadis have got support and motivation from Israeli secret agency, Mossad’s operations against the Arab and Muslim countries in the past.
The newspaper writes that relations between Mossad and CIA are world known. Report mentions that intelligence agencies are worried about the infiltration of Mossad and CIA in the country. According to undisclosed sources, Indian intelligence agencies are now examining the full details of the visit of Israel’s religious leaders to India and their meetings with Sadhu, Sanths. Intelligence agencies are investigating all those Hindu and Muslim leaders that the Israeli religious delegation had met.
According to the newspaper, it was during the rule of BJP’s Atul Behari Vajpayee; a beginning was made for the visits of Hindutvadis, and especially Sadhus and dharam gurus of the Sangh Parivar to Israel. These visits have been on the increase. It was during Vajpayee’s time, that the visits to Israel and consequently the relations and contacts of Sangh Parivar Dharam gurus and Hindutva leaders with Israel increased manifold.
According to the newspaper, for last ten years, the central intelligence agencies have been closely studying and analyzing the growing strength of Hindutvadi and Sangh Parivar organisations and the increasing violence through these organisations against Muslims, Christians, and minorities in Gujarat, Orissa, Karnataka and other states. Intelligence agencies have disclosed that the visits of Jews and Israeli rabbis was not very frequent in the past, but it has increased to worrisome proportions, during last few years. Of all, the most studied is the February 2007 visit to Delhi of the delegation of Israeli Jewish religious leaders. The delegation was headed by Israel’s Chief Rabbi, Yonah Metzger.
In this delegation, Jewish religious leaders from Israel as well as others rabbis from Belgium and Spain too were included. In India, the Israel Jewish religious delegation met important Hindutva leaders, which included especially the RSS Chief K. S. Sudharshan, President of VHP, Ashok Singhal, VHP leader Vishnu Hari Dalmia.
After the meeting of the Sadhu Sanths and Jewish leaders, both delegations had issued a common manifesto.
In this meeting, Jewish Rabbis expressed grave concern over the details of the terrorist attacks allegedly carried out by Muslims, as narrated by Hindu dharam gurus. Secret Service sources disclosed that at the invitation of Israeli Jewish religious leaders, a delegation of Hindutva leaders had visited Israel this year. In this, some leaders of Sangh Parivar too were included.
The national daily, published from Madhya Pradesh and other places, in its report has exposed that the officials of the national intelligence agencies have categorically stated that American secret service agency, CIA together with Israel’s secret organisation Mossad, has carried out several secret operation all over Asia.
And now that the bomb blast of Malegaon and Modasa had involved the names of the fake Shankaracharya Amaranand alias Dayanand Pande, Sadhvi Pragya Thakur, enquiries and investigation of relations between Jewish and Hindutva religious leaders from Israel and India are being severely felt and is being analyzed. Why investigation of Israeli connection of Hindutvadis?
New Delhi, November 25: The way ATS has arrested Hindutva extremists belonging to Sangh Parivar, in connection with Malegaon bomb blast, facts have emerged of international networking and support to Hindutva radicals. This has alarmed national intelligence community. India’s internal and external intelligence agencies and RAW have got busy trying to figure out if there is some big international conspiracy is being hatched behind the activities of hardline extremists of Sangh Parivar. According to secret sources, back in February 2007, an Israeli delegation headed by Israel’s Chief Rabbi, Yonah Metzger, and accompanied by several high ranking Jewish religious leaders, had visited India.
This Jewish Religious delegation held meetings with many Sadhus, Sanths and Dharam gurus. The delegation also met some Muslim leaders. Now intelligence agencies have started investigations of the meetings of the Israeli delegation and local Sadhus, Sanths and dharam gurus. It is mentioned that the delegation of Israeli Jewish religious leaders has met leaders and dharam gurus from RSS, Sangh Parivar, VHP and BJP. Lal Krishna Advani had arranged a dinner for the visiting Israeli Jewish religious leaders’ delegation and others included in the delegation, at his own residence. According to high official, though the meeting of Sangh Parivar’s leaders to Israeli delegation is not of undue importance, but the way America’s secret service, CIA and Israel’s secret agency, Mossad, are infiltrating in Central Asian and South Asian countries, it is giving strength to the suspicions that in such delegations, members of foreign intelligence get included and through interaction and infiltration, secret operations are carried out. Those organisations that organise and support such visits and meetings, may or may not be aware of the secret mission of foreign agencies, the truth can come out only on investigations. For this reason, the national agencies are now concentrating on investigation of Sangh Parivar and its connections with Israeli lobby and Mossad.

El anuncio lo ha realizado un portavoz del grupo, según éste , el secretario estadounidense será asesinado en una operación israelí, actualmente en la fase final de ejecución, con el fin de culpar a Militantes pakistaníes.
Al-Qaeda Jihad Pakistán dice que han perforado e infiltrado las filas de la inteligencia enemiga y que dispone de información secreta de la planificación de éste asesinato que se llevará a cabo durante una reunión secreta prevista para los próximos días en la zona de Asia. El ataque será al convoy de Robert Gates.
Esto le daría una “excusa razonable” para enviar tropas de EEUU a Pakistán con el fin de neutralizar los emplazamientos nucleares secretos, Israel teme que en la guerra directa con Irán un grupo de oficiales pakistaníes pueda utilizar cabezas nucleares contra ellos.

"No es cierto lo del 11-S,; es la mentira de las mentiras", afirmó el escritor, quien añadió que los atentados de 2001 en EE UU "no fueron cometidos por Al Qaeda ni los musulmanes, sino por los norteamericanos", que utilizaron "aviones que iban vacíos".

Es catalogado como un terrorista. Incluso se le define a la Católica América del Sur, como soporte de Al-Qaida.
También dicen que bin Laden no habría sobrevivido mucho tiempo sin sus protectores y una vasta red de apoyo. Quién son sus protectores?
El asesor jurídico Ben Laden fue Madeleine Allbright, que era entonces secretaria de Estado EE.UU. Los sudaneses querían en ese momento, entregar a bin Laden a la administración norteamericana directamente, y la señora Albright se negó a esto, diciendo que era imposible, porque no hay ninguna acusación contra él. Por otra parte, el presidente de la asociación de amigos de Bin Laden es Michael Shayer de la CIA y el servicio de personal de Ben Laden, el sargento Mohamed Ali que se encontraba en el ejército egipcio, y luego pasó a ser miembro de Las fuerzas especiales de los EE.UU. en Carolina del Norte. Amid continuing reports of a renewed initiative to hold peace talks with the Taliban over Afghanistan, and confusion over the Taliban's position, the Taliban leadership decided to outline its stance, and chose Mullah Mohammad Hasan Rahmani to speak with Asia Times Online.
Rahmani, about 50, is a member of the Taliban's shura (council) and a close adviser to Taliban leader Mullah Omar, with whom he is in daily contact; so much so that in Taliban circles he is considered Mullah Omar's shadow. During Taliban rule (1996-2001), Rahmani was governor of Kandahar province, the Taliban's spiritual heartland.
The interview took place at a location at which both North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) and Pakistan security troops operate in their hunt for the Taliban.
Asia Times Online: Please introduce yourself. How were you introduced to the Taliban movement? How did you became governor of Kandahar province? What is your relation with the Taliban movement at present?
Mullah Mohammad Hasan Rahmani: My name is Hasan Rahmani. I am a former governor of Kandahar province. I was involved with the Taliban movement from its beginning. It was an Islamic movement, and I had been involved in jihad, so I joined it. Later, when some areas were conquered by the Taliban, I was appointed as governor of Kandahar, and till the last I remained in this position.
ATol: Where did you get your education?
HR: At different places and in different madrassas [seminaries] in Afghanistan, Peshawar, Quetta etc.
ATol: Since you are still very close to Mullah Omar, and you are part of his shura , please explain why the Western media are boosting peace talks with the Taliban and saying that Saudi Arabia has played a major role. One report even says Saudi Arabia has offered Mullah Omar asylum.
HR: Today the Taliban are successful and the Americans and the NATO forces are in a state of defeat. The enemy wants to engage the Taliban and deviate their minds. Sometimes they offer talks, sometimes they offer other fake issues. The Taliban never ever tried for such talks, neither do we want these talks to be held. Neither the Saudi Arabian initiative [talks held recently in Mecca] nor the Saudi Arabian proposal [over Mullah Omar] is acceptable.
ATol: Al-Sharaq al-Awsat is a very credible [London-based] journal which mentioned two names [among others] which, according to my knowledge, are a part of the Taliban. One is Moulvi Abdul Kabeer, who was governor of Nangarhar province during Taliban rule, the other was Syed Tayyab Agha, who was Mullah Omar's secretary. These people went to Saudi Arabia and dined with King Abdullah. Is this news correct? Were they really there, and if so, in what capacity?
HR: This is absolutely wrong. Neither Moulvi Abdul Kabeer nor Tayyab Agha went to Saudi Arabia. In the last days of Ramadan [end of October] the former Taliban ambassador to Pakistan, Mullah Abdul Salam Zaeef, was invited for dinner, but later the media projected that talks had begun with the Taliban under Saudi mediation. That was to weaken the Taliban and their jihad. The fact is that the Taliban were not part of such talks, nor are they ready to be so.
ATol: You have always been one of Mullah Omar’s close lieutenants, part of his shura. Is he still commanding the Taliban from Afghanistan?
HR: Mullah Mohammad Omar Mujahid is still the commander of the faithful. He is the sole leader of the Taliban and solely in charge of their affairs.
ATol: Every year there is talk of Kandahar falling to the Taliban, but they have not succeeded in occupying it, or even putting any serious pressure on it. Except for engineering a mass jail break this year, they could not undertake any significant action. Why?
HR: This is a battlefield arrangement. Sometimes the Taliban capture several areas and reach near Kandahar, and believe they are in a position to seize it, so they talk about occupying it. But the fact is the Taliban could not occupy Kandahar.
ATol: The Taliban are blamed for attacking unveiled women with acid in Kandahar. What is the reality?
HR: This is propaganda aimed at defaming the Taliban. Nobody knows who threw the acid. Throwing acid on any human being, whether a man or a woman, has never been the Taliban’s policy and the Taliban deny their involvement in such acts.
ATol:Western media project that the Taliban have imposed Islamic laws, even though they don’t have a government in Afghanistan. They force people to practice Islam, stop the masses from listening to music and insist that men grow long beards and wear turbans. Is there any substance in this?
HR: The reality is that this is the time of resistance and jihad and the entire focus is on resistance. But at the same time, we place emphasis on the implementation of Islamic laws. This is the duty of all Muslims, to practice Islam and motivate others.
ATol: The Taliban have made special arrangements to disrupt NATO's supply lines. In Khyber Agency and in the Afghan provinces of Nangarhar and Wardak, the Taliban have carried out many attacks. Recently, similar attacks were witnessed in Kandahar. Are there plans to permanently disrupt NATO's supply lines in Spin Boldak [in Kandahar province] and in Kandahar?
RH: The Taliban have occupied all major routes in Afghanistan and have been choking the arteries of supplies for NATO convoys. They are strongly prepared between Wardak and Kandahar to cut off NATO supplies, but all over Afghanistan they are better prepared to do so.
ATol: Kandahar is the most important province of Afghanistan. Historically, the ruling elite belonged to this province. All prominent warlords and warriors came from Kandahar. How many Kandahari tribes are with you? I heard that President Hamid Karzai's own tribesmen [Popalzai] supported the Taliban.
RH: This is a fact, that Kandahari tribes are with the Taliban, even Hamid Karzai’s tribesmen, and even the elders of his tribes are with the Taliban and all the tribes.
ATol: Could you please name them, I mean the tribes who collectively decided to side with the Taliban?
RH: The Achakzai, Noorzai, Hajizai, Wazir and the tribes stretching up to Kunar and Khost are all with the Taliban ... and the Barakzai tribe.
ATol: The Popalzai ... ?
RH: Yes, the Popalzai, the Ishaqzai ... those opposed to the Taliban are now embarrassed and are contacting the Taliban, saying that Hamid Karzai deceived them.
ATol:Next year, presidential elections are scheduled in Afghanistan. Kandahar is the home of Karzai. When he contested the elections last time, he was supported by some former Taliban, including Mullah Abdul Salam Rocketti. Will it be possible for Karzai to roam freely in Kandahar to solicit votes?
RH: The entire world knows that he does not have a base or support. He is a weak person. Nobody believes Karzai is able to be supportive or useful to them. He has even lost the support of NATO and the Americans, therefore it is unlikely he will get the same attention from the people as he got during the last presidential elections.

Dos soldados franceses muertos al sur Kabul
El ataque se produjo tres meses después de la muerte de diez soldados franceses y otros 21 heridos a manos de combatientes talibanes en una gran batalla cerca de Kabul, la mayor pérdida pora las fuerzas extranjeras en combate desde 2001. El canal de noticias árabe transmitió un video que amenaza con ataques en París si Francia no se retira de Afganistánm la amenaza es extensiva al resto de paises que se encuentran en Afganistán.

Shabaab al-Mujahideen niegan estar detras de los secuestros de piratas somalíes
Shabaab al-Mujahideen niegan las acusaciones de ser ellos los piratas, también niegan la reivindicación del secuestro en un comunicado aparecido en su web oficial.
El jeque Hassan YakubAli de Al-Shabaab al-Mujahideen ha dicho que su grupo garantizará la parte meridional del país y para ello se ha formado un grupo de trabajo para proteger las zonas costeras de país.
"Vamos a luchar contra la piratería hasta erradicarlos de nuestros mares. . Todos los buques que transporten mercancías para nuestro pueblo deben estar seguros en nuestras costas"
Otros líderes de Al-Shabaab acusan directamente a otros países de estar directamente involucrados en el secuestro de buques por intereses económicos de las compañías aseguradoras propiciando la caída en bolsa de algunas de ellas en un futuro inmediato y posteriormente hacerse con ellas a precios basura. También acusan a éstos países de occidente de querer enviar buques de guerra para otros fines que no son precisamente la piratería.

La dietrología no es materia de estudio en las academias de las agencias de inteligencia de occidente, tampoco se estudia absolutamente nada de la estenografía teológica, por eso muchos creen en las teorías de las conspiraciones....demasiados fallos en los reiterados atentados de al-qaeda donde siempre queda la duda de la implicación de elementos de la inteligencia....
Personalmente creo que es así, siempre existe una implicación directa de un grupo ligado a la inteligencia y los intereses económicos de determinados grupos de poder ligados directamente con la religión judeocristiana ...

Al Qaeda acusa a Obama de traicionar sus "raíces islámicas"
El ''número dos'' de la red Al Qaeda, Ayman al Zawahiri, ha acusado al presidente electo de Estados Unidos, Barack Obama, de traicionar sus "raíces islámicas" por haber expresado su apoyo a Israel durante la campaña electoral. Asimismo, advirtió a Obama de que ponga fin a la política de su antecesor, George W. Bush, en Irak y en el mundo árabe e instó a los musulmanes de todo el mundo a seguir cometiendo ataques contra la "criminal América".Por su parte, el Departamento de Seguridad Nacional de Estados Unidos considera que el nuevo mensaje del ''número dos'' de la red terrorista no sugiere una mayor amenaza para el país. La portavoz del Departamento, Laura Keehner, ha afirmado que no hay nada en el mensaje que haga cambiar la valoración de las amenazas contra Estados Unidos. "Mantenemos que no hay información creíble que sugiera que exista una amenaza inmediata contra el país en este momento", ha explicado.
"La nación islámica ha recibido con extrema amargura tu hipócrita postura hacia Israel", afirma Al Zawahiri dirigiéndose a Obama en un mensaje sonoro difundido por el Instituto SITE, una organización estadounidense que supervisa a los grupos armados islámicos.
"Tú naciste de un padre musulmán, pero has optado por unirte a los enemigos de los musulmanes", prosiguió. Durante la campaña electoral, Obama efectuó una visita a Israel en la que prometió que Estados Unidos seguiría apoyando a este país en caso de que venciese en los comicios presidenciales.
"América, el cruzado criminal e invasor, sigue siendo el mismo y debemos atacarle para que las cosas recuperen el sentido", proclamó Al Zawahiri en su mensaje, dirigido a los musulmanes de todo el mundo. "El proyecto criminal y expansionista de los cruzados en vuestros países sólo ha sido neutralizado por el sacrificio de sus hijos, los muyahidines", manifestó.
Asimismo, Zawahiri adviritó a Obama de que puede fracasar en Afganistán si decide continuar con la guerra en este país. Enla grabación de audio colgada en un foro islamista en internet, cuya autenticidad no pudo ser verificada, el número dos de la redaugura que Obama correrá la misma suerte que su predecesor George W.
Zawahiri criticó el anuncio de Obama de retirar tropas de Irak para mandarlas a Afganistán y predijo que "es una política destinada al fracaso antes de nacer". "Entérate de que los perros de Afganistán han encontrado la carne de tus soldados deliciosa, así que mándales miles y miles", prosiguió en la grabación, acompañada de algunas imágenes de Obama.
Además, Zawahiri, de origen egipcio, calificó en la grabación a Obama de "negro que sirve a los blancos". "Eres lo contrario de los negros honestos estadounidenses como Malcom X", dijo el lugarteniente del líder de Al Qaeda, Osama bin Laden en la grabación. "En ti, Colin Powell, Rice y los que son como vosotros se confirman las palabras de Malcom X (que Dios tenga compasión en él) sobre los criados negros", agregó. El audio está acompañado de una imagen del Zawahiri, fotografías de Obama junto a dirigentes judíos y una instantánea de Malcom X

Un portavoz hasta hora desconocido ha reivindicado el secuestro del superpetrolero de Arabia Saudita. Piratas somalíes fueron los autores del secuestro. Estos piratas trabajan, según el portavoz de A.Q. en el Cuerno de Africa, para el auto proclamado Emirato Islámico de Somalia.

Omar Osama Bin Laden uno de los 19 hijos de Bin Laden pide asilo político en Barajas
Omar Osama llegó ayer de El Cairo y fue llevado a la sala de casos pendientes de la terminal 4 del aeropuerto madrileño JORGE A. RODRÍGUEZ - Madrid - 04/11/2008
Omar Osama Bin Laden, de 28 años, uno de los 19 hijos de Osama Bin Laden, el terrorista fundador y jefe de Al Qaeda, pidió ayer asilo político en España nada más aterrizar en el aeropuerto de Barajas (Madrid). El vástago del hombre más buscado de la tierra, con quien convivió durante 20 años (en Sudán y Afganistán), se bajó en la terminal 4 de un avión procedente de El Cairo que se dirigía hacia Casablanca (Marruecos) e hizo escala en Madrid, según fuentes conocedoras de los hechos. Omar Osama Bin Laden se autodefine como "el hijo pacifista" del terrorista y repudia el terrorismo de su padre.
Omar Osama, casado con la ciudadana británica Zaina al Sabah (antes conocida como Jane Felix-Browne), de 52 años, ya había solicitado con anterioridad, en abril de este año, asilo político en la Embajada de Reino Unido en El Cairo, pero las autoridades británicas se lo denegaron al entender que sería "una considerable inquietud pública". Sin embargo, las fuentes consultadas aseguraron que España, tras la sorpresa inicial por este hecho, ha decidido tramitar "con celeridad" el expediente de asilo. Mientras tanto, Omar Osama permanecerá en la sala de tránsito e inadmitidos del aeropuerto de Barajas, indicaron las mismas fuentes.
El peticionario de asilo nació en Arabia Saudí, hijo del ahora terrorista más buscado y la siria Najwa Ghanem. Estuvo durante 10 años con su padre en el exilio en Sudán y, posteriormente, vivió en Afganistán, donde hasta el año 2000 fue incluso entrenado en un campo de terroristas. Cuando sucediron los ataques del 11-S, el hijo de Bin Laden se encontraba en Arabia Saudí.
Su nombre completo es Omar Bin Osama Bin Muhammad Bin Awad Bin Laden y en declaraciones públicas se ha mostrado dispuesto a refutar las ideas occidentales sobre los árabes y sobre que todos los hijos de Osama Bin Laden son terroristas.
El hijo de Bin Laden se casó con Jane Felix-Browne, quien ya tiene tres hijos y cinco nietos, en Egipto en septiembre de 2006. Ambos se conocieron en dicho país cuando la mujer acudió a El Cairo para someterse a un tratamiento de esclerosis múltiple. La primera vez que se vieron ella estaba montando a caballo. "Nos enamoramos y nos casamos en dos ceremonias islamicas en Egipto y Arabia Saudí. Fui yo quien le propuso matrimonio", declaró la mujer en julio de 2007 al diario británico The Times. Para ella éste es su sexto matrimonio. Él, supuestamente, ya había celebrado con anterioridad otros dos matrimonios, y hasta ahora se ganaba la vida como comerciante de chatarra en Yida. En The Times, la ahora llamada Zaina al Sabah declaró que Omar Osama ignora si supadre perpetró los ataques del 11-S.

Bystanders dragged the wounded and dead to cars that took them to hospitals. Police officers covered the burned remains of the dead with white sheets, leaving them in the street.
No one claimed responsibility for the blasts that went off within minutes of each other, but dozens of militant separatist groups have been fighting the government and one another for years in the region.
"I was shopping near the secretariat when I heard three to four loud explosions. Windowpanes in the shops shattered and we fell to the ground as the building started shaking," said H.K. Dutt, who was lightly wounded by shrapnel.
"I stood up and saw fire and smoke billowing out, then I looked down and saw blood on my shirt," Dutt said.
N.I. Hussain, Gauhati's deputy inspector general of police, told the CNN-IBN news channel that police in the state were on high alert and searching for more unexploded bombs. "There may be more blasts. You never know," he said.
Later, dozens of people angry over the blasts took to the streets of the state capital, stoning vehicles and torching at least two fire engines. Police imposed a curfew on the city and shut down roads leading in and out of the area.
U.S. Ambassador David Mulford condemned the attack.
"Americans share their sorrow and outrage at these horrific attacks on innocent people," he said.
The isolated region wedged between Bangladesh, Bhutan, China and Myanmar with only a thin corridor connecting it to the rest of India is a hotbed for separatists who accuse the central government of exploiting the region's natural resources while doing little for the indigenous people — most of whom are ethnically closer to Burma and China than to the rest of India.
More than 10,000 people have died in separatist violence over the past decade in the region.
The area also has been hit recently by ethnic clashes. At least 49 people were killed in July in violence between members of the native Bodo tribe and recent migrants to the area, most of whom are Muslims.
The government has blamed several previous serial attacks in India on Islamic militants from nearby Bangladesh.

GAUHATI, India – It's hard to keep the insurgent groups straight in India's far eastern region: the United Liberation Front of Asom, the National Democratic Front of Bodoland, the Gorkha Tiger Force and many more.
But despite years of violence, no one had seen anything like the 13 coordinated bombs that killed 77 people and wounded hundreds in four towns Thursday — raising the possibility that better-armed, better-trained militants have joined the fray.
The groups are battling for power, for ethnic pride and for control of drug routes in India's northeast, an isolated collection of seven states and hundreds of ethnic groups and subgroups. They fight the government and they fight each other in a region crippled by poverty and political chaos.
Many of the movements are small and poorly armed. A couple of the larger ones can put together fairly well-armed assaults and bloody bombings. Over the past decade, the violence has killed more than 10,000 people.
The United Liberation Front of Asom, which wants an independent state for the region's ethnic Assamese, is the largest of the northeast's myriad militant groups and the main suspect in Thursday's attack.
Few here, though, believe the group is capable of carrying out such a sophisticated attack, at least not on its own.
Bhaskar Jyoti Mahanta, head of the Assam state police, said the United Liberation Front of Asom was the main target of the investigation. But he added that the complexity suggested local rebels were "assisted by a force who has adequate expertise in such attacks."
He did not elaborate, but Indian media and analysts were quick to accuse Islamic extremists — the most experienced of India's militants who have long been blamed for the country's bloodiest attacks.
"There's a very strong suspicion that it was jihadis" behind the Thursday bombings, said Noni Gopal Mahanta, head of the Peace and Conflict Studies Center at Gauhati University, in Assam's capital, Gauhati. "ULFA doesn't have the capacity to hit so many points with such magnitude."
Islamic militants could have been drawn into an alliance with ULFA because a rival ethnic insurgent group, the National Democratic Front of Bodoland, has recently been targeting Muslim settlers in the northeast.
A local television station, News Live, said Thursday that it had received a text message from a previously unknown group claiming responsibility for the explosions. The group, calling itself the Islamic Security Force (Indian Mujahadeen), warned of future attacks, News Live said.
The name echoes that of the Indian Mujahadeen, a group unknown until May — when it claimed to be behind bombings in the western city of Jaipur that killed 61 people. It also claimed responsibility for blasts in the western state of Gujarat in July that killed at least 45 and blasts in New Delhi in September that killed 21.
A senior police official, speaking on condition of anonymity because the investigation was in progress, said police were unaware of the group and were trying to track down the phone from which the message was sent.
Amid the region's maze of ethnicity, bloodshed and politics, it is the powerless who suffer the most.
"I am disgusted by this violence," Durga Rai, who runs a vegetable stand in Gauhati, said Friday. "When I come out here to sell vegetables in the morning, I'm not sure I will return home alive."
The northeast is a geographic anomaly, a region dangling off India's eastern edge where most people are closer ethnically to China or Burma.
To most northeasterners, India is something between a political stepfather and an occupying power, and the insurgent groups emerged from generations of discontent.
Around here, the national government in New Delhi is seen as little more than an exploiter of the region's natural resources that does little for the indigenous people, leaving the area far less developed than much of the rest of India.
But over the years, the broad support the rebel groups originally held has dissolved amid cycles of militant attacks and government crackdowns. Many groups further isolate themselves from the people they claim to protect by supporting themselves through extortion, robbery and drug smuggling.
"Initially, I thought the militant groups like the ULFA had emerged to give the local people their due, to fight injustice, and so on," said Arati Sharma, 60, a women's rights activist in Gauhati. "Seeing their actions over the years, I have realized they are a bunch of trigger-happy rebels without any ideology."
Police like hearing such talk, and the authorities say the years of violence have turned the public away from the militants.
The reality, though, is that neither side is very popular.
"I blame both the government and the militants for the state of affairs," said Bhabesh Barua, a college student. "The government because it has failed to resolve the insurgency problem politically, and the militants for degenerating into terrorists and killing innocent noncombatants."
